"By the Book":

Hair products, lotions, sunscreen, etc can be harsh on your jewelry and can decrease the longevity of your gold-filled jewelry or any other metals. Rule of thumb is to simply put on your jewelry after you've applied any products such as lotions, sunscreen, perfumes, makeup, etc.

How To Clean:

To keep your gold-filled jewelry in tip top condition, clean your jewelry regularly using lukewarm water and mild soap (non-chemical soap) and completely dry using a soft cloth & pat dry. Avoid wearing your gold-filled jewelry in swimming pools and the ocean, as the salt water and chlorine can cause damage to your goods and decrease the lifespan of your jewels. 

 

Deep Cleaning Steps:

1. Put one or two drops of gentle soap in a small bowl of warm water (not hot).

2. Soak your jewelry for 5-10 minutes.

3. Gently scrub with soft toothbrush/brush to get into the small gaps of your jewelry piece. 

4. Rinse with warm water.

5. Dry completely with soft cloth. *Do not store until piece is completely dry.

 

*Do not use a brush for your vermeil pieces. You can end up rubbing off the layer of gold, exposing the silver underneath. 

*For Silver Only: You can also use a silver cleaning solution that is sold at stores and online.

 

How to Store:

To properly store your gold filled jewelry when not in use, place it in our jewelry pouch or an airtight container or bag (ziplock bag also works!) after you have cleaned the piece and dried it completely. Make sure it is completely dry and not damp or it can cause rapid tarnishing. Properly storing your jewelry will maximize the life and appearance of your jewelry. 

 

MATERIALS

Gold-Filled 

Despite its misleading name, “gold-filled jewelry is not actually filled with gold. It’s basically the opposite. Gold-filled jewelry is jewelry that is composed of a thick solid layer of gold (typically 5% of the item’s total weight) mechanically bonded to a base/core layer of metal (brass, copper, silver). Worry and hassle free. Hypoallergenic and water friendly. Gold-filled jewelry is the best alternative to solid gold, as it offers the ideal balance of quality and value.

Sterling Silver

92.5% silver mixed with 7.5% metal alloy. Hypoallergenic and water friendly.

Vermeil

Gold that is bonded sterling silver. It can only be called Vermeil (Pronounced "ver-may") when it is .925 sterling silver base/core and the gold plating is at least 2.5 microns thick. Gold vermeil is basically silver jewelry with a thick gold coating. Hypoallergenic and water friendly. A great alternative to solid gold!
